Main research trends

GENERAL RADIOBIOLOGY

GEORGE ORMOTSADZE

Doctor of Biology Sciences

Study of conceptual, theoretical and experimental bases and modeling of red blood system(RBS) function. Investigation of joint action of ionizing radiation, 50 Hz EMF, stress and other ecological risk factors on RBS, using a novel methodology (gradual or reverse swelling test) for spectral analysis of peripheral blood erythrocytes population. The method is based on original hard and soft ware realization and allows for the quantitative evaluation of erythropoiesis rate and degree, circulating cell aging and elimination rates etc.

RADIATION NEUROBIOLOGY

MARINA NIKOLAISHVILI

Doctor of Biology Sciences

Studies of comparative radiosensitivity in aggressive (mice killer) and nonaggressive rats, modification of their neurochemical and behavioral correlates induced by ionizing radiation and power frequency electro-magnetic field (EMF), namely dimension (estimation, determination) of specific peptides number and ratio in different structures of brain responsible for organization of aggressive behavior, content of free amino acids, SH-groups and so on in blood serum, et.c. on the one hand, and behavior in open field, active and passive avoidince elaboration, memory, learning, et.c. and its neurochemical correlates, on the other hand.

RADIATION ECOLOGY

Vacancy

Study of natural and anthropogenic variations of background radiation, its epidemiological correlates, ranking fo simultaneous action of biotic and nonbiotic agents on human health in the Caucasus, epidemiological analysis of Chernobyl clear up worker from Georgia.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES

HARRY GREBENCHUK

Doctor of Technical Sciences

Elaboration and definition (measuring, make out) the hard- and software complex for simultaneous on-line measuring of pulse signal amplitude and interpulse intervals suitable for a) extracellular recording and analysis of multineuronal spike patterns; b) beet to beet analysis of P-Q, Q-T and R-R intervals of ECG (Heart Rate Variability); c) conductometric measuring in electrolyte dispersed particles (cell suspensions).

Introduction

Bio-Medical Engineering Society of Georgia [BMES]

1967

Nongoverment public organization at the Georgian Academy of Sciences, from 1989 - Independent Society at the Center.

The main subdivisions of the Society are Primary groups at the scientific institutions and universities as well as regional branches in regions and towns. The Society is run by a Board including President and 2 vice-presidents.

Georgian Academy of Ecological Sciences [AES]

1989

A non government Georgian Ecological Scientific Society, renamed in 1995 and newly registered by the Ministry of Justice as The Georgian Academy of Ecological Sciences.

977 Active, Corresponding, Associated and Honorary members, among them members of Georgien Parliament and Goverment. Activity of the Academy rests on the principle of professional and regional federalism, subjects of which are branch and regional departments of the academy all over the territory of Georgia. The Academy involves 10 branch and 7 regional departments. Each department is a body corporate with its own statutes, while head of department has the authorities of a vice-president.

Georgian National Council of Radiobiology and Radiation Safety [RADSEF]

2003

The Council represents a non-governmental advisory-consulting and informative organization under the Scientific Research Center of Radiobiology and Radiation Ecology of Georgian Ministry of Education and Sciences, which unites the leading specialists from the different departments in the field of nuclear, radiation and electromagnetic safety. It is a legal representative of the Standing Committee on Isotope and Radiation, founded by the Presidium of Georgian Academy of Sciences in 1948, and serves as a component part of the Scientific Research Center of Radiobiology and Radiation Ecology.
